The first visit to the dentist can be a a wonderful experience for your child if the proper steps are taken to prepare them for the visit.
Never try to scare your child or make them feel like a trip to the dentist should be something to fear. Children are very perceptive and can tell if their parents are anxious or nervous. Encourage older siblings to avoid frightening the child about the dentist. Dental phobia is primarily established at a young age by siblings, parents, and cartoons. Do your best to foster positive experiences for your child.
On the first visit, if your child does not respond well, we will stop and try again in 6 months. There is no need to force them or frighten them. Often, the doctor can perform a cursory exam to make sure there are no problems.
